Match the tab to your restoration: 1.0mm (Pink) for gold and all-metal crowns, 1.5mm (Green) for porcelain-fused-to-metal, and 2.0mm (Blue) for all-ceramic, zirconia and CAD/CAM.

Standard works for molars and most teeth. Mini is smaller, for bicuspids, lower incisors and maxillary laterals, and comes in 1.5mm and 2.0mm in boxes of 50.

How it works

Three simple steps

The entire process happens in seconds

1. Test

Insert the uncoated (darker) side between your prep and opposing teeth. Pull gently. If it slides out easily you're good. If not, proceed to Step 2.

Blue PrepCheck prep-marking tool positioned on a tooth in a dental typodont 2. Mark

Flip to the coated (lighter) side. Have the patient tap or grind. The marking powder transfers to exactly where further reduction is needed.

3. Reduce & verify

Reduce the marked areas. Re-check with Step 1. Repeat until the tab slides freely. Done.

FAQs

What's the difference between PrepCheck® and PrepCheck® Mini?

PrepCheck® Standard: Works for molars and most teeth.

PrepCheck® Mini: Smaller, designed for bicuspids, lower incisors, and maxillary laterals.

Mini sizes: Available in 1.5mm (Green) and 2.0mm (Blue) only.

Which thickness should I buy?

2.0mm Blue: Best for all-ceramic or zirconia restorations (~78% of crowns).

1.5mm Green: For PFM.

1.0mm Pink: For gold/metal.

Most practices: Keep 2.0mm Blue as their standard.

Is PrepCheck® reusable?

No — single-use and disposable.

At $2.50 per tab, it’s far cheaper than a remake.

How is this different from plain clearance tabs?

Plain tabs: Only show if clearance is enough.

PrepCheck: Shows if clearance is enough and exactly where reduction is needed.

Dual-coated design marks interference points with visible powder.

Do I need PrepCheck® for every crown?

Not always. Most valuable for:

  • Posterior preps (hard to visually verify).
  • All-ceramic restorations (under-reduction risks fracture).
  • Avoiding lab callbacks.

Some dentists use it on every crown; others only for challenging cases.

What if my crown preps are already good?

Even excellent dentists benefit from objective verification.

Study (Bennett et al., J Dent Educ 2025): 47% of preps had at least one area of inadequate clearance.

PrepCheck takes seconds and costs $2.50 — cheap insurance.

Do you offer samples?

Yes — $5 for a single tab in any thickness.

Use code SAMPLE to get up to 3 free samples.

What is your shipping policy?

Free Shipping on orders over $150.

Most orders ship within 1–2 business days via USPS Priority Mail.
